Hi! Ok, so this is something I really struggle with. Eating. While. Traveling. I think we all struggle with this. Am I right? Tomorrow, I will be joining my husband on a business trip in Las Vegas. Picking through airport food, hotels, and restaurants I’m not familiar with… the struggle is real! Especially because of my rather strict diet. I don’t eat meat or most dairy products.

The best advice I can give while traveling in airports is…plan ahead! Bring a protein bar, some nuts, fruit, or other healthy snacks in your carry-on bag. The food at airports is gross and super expensive so try to plan ahead.

Often times when I’m traveling, I subconsciously tell myself, “I deserve to eat bad food because I’m on vacation.” So, why not indulge? I’m trying so hard to get away from this mindset. Instead, I should be telling myself, “I deserve to eat good wholesome food because I’m on vacation.” However, this can be a challenge when you’re not eating at home. When I get away from my normal healthy lifestyle, I end up feeling like crap and regret it anyways.

All you can do is try your best. There will be times when you’re on vacation or a business trip and you will indulge. Be ok with that. Don’t be too hard on yourself because if you’re eating well most of the time, a few indulging meals here or there won’t hurt. This is where I like to refer back to the 80/20 rule. Eighty-percent of the time be mindful of what you’re eating and your physical activity. The other 20% of the time, have fun, eat the cake, kick back on the couch and relax. It’s a balance. Maintaining the balance is the challenge for most people. When you fall off, dust yourself off and get right back on. You can do it!

I know when I get back from an indulging trip, it’s always harder to get back into the routine. My willpower to get back and feel good is greater than my cravings so most of the time, I prevail. Isn’t that a band name? 🙂

Anyways, I hope you enjoy the last week of summer. It’s supposed to be beautiful here in Michigan and I look forward to my last camping/kayaking trip next weekend with friends and family.

Peace, love, light xoxo
